1 - In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media  products?

3 - What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

4 - Who would be the audience for your media product?

5 - How did you attract/address your audience?

6 - What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

During this media project I had learnt a large amount of information from different technologies. I had to acquire these skills to make sure that my final project was completed to its best ability. Starting the project I had no understanding of any of the equipment that I was going to have to use. My teacher had helped me throughout the project on how to use all the individual work and how to get the best work from it. I also gained a lot of my skills of tutorial videos on YouTube which gave me the extra help I needed if I was stuck using a certain software. I was fortunate enough to be supplies with a large amount of useful technology that I was able to use to make sure that my film look professional. All the skills that I have learnt During this project have proven very useful and I will try to improve on them in the future.

7 - Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

When I created my preliminary task I had limited skill in all aspects of film making. I was untrained with all the equipment and the software. This low level of skills showed in my preliminary as it was of a low standard. I had created the preliminary work before I was given any tutorial lessons on equipment by my teachers.

The first progression that I achieved from my preliminary was in the pre-production processes. My preliminary didn’t have a script I only wrote down some dialogue that the actors where going to engage with. This was improved during my progression as I studied the best way to create a script. My final script contained a lot more detail including shots and transitions the improved script was very important as it explained the basis for the film. Another pre-production method was the storyboard my preliminary storyboard had no detail and the shots were not thought out in detail. The pictures were crudely drawn with no detail on the timing of the shot. To improve on my storyboard for my final opening I took my time with drawing each individual shot and used my shot list and script to structure the storyboard. The storyboard proved very useful when filming my opening as it was a clear indication for what was the next shot.

When creating my preliminary the actors I used were not skilled in acting. This made my preliminary look rushed and unplanned and the poor acting brought down the whole production in general. I took this into account and focused on picking the best actor for the role in my opening. The actor that I chose for my main role was a drama student this was a huge improved as he was skilled in the art of acting. The better acting made the opening look a lot more professional and made the film flow. A good actor engages the audience and makes the film more compelling.

Another progression is costumes. My preliminary used no set costumes and the actors just worked in what they were wearing. This didn’t really cause a problem because the preliminary was just a short conversation between friends so the costumes were not important but for the final opening I needed a set costume. I research a lot of clothes conventions because I needed to show the audience who my characters where by the clothes they wore. My progression was being able to show who the characters are just by the clothes that they wear. I followed conventions of an agent wearing a suit giving him the federal effect and the main character wears a leather jacket making him look intimidating.

The quality of my shots was a large progression. In my preliminary the shots were boring, conventional shots which made the conversation very dull and basic. I improved on this by researching different shots and the effect they place on the audience. My progression was further improved by studying films in the same genre so I could see how they did shots and transfer these into my opening. Overall the shots in my opening had drastically improved form the preliminary shots they were more unique and created a more gripping opening. The camera was also an important progression because when I started my preliminary I used the camera on its automatic setting and didn’t adjust any of the shots this lead to over exposure. With help from my teacher I learnt how to set a camera setting to the environment and the type of shot this improved my final opening as it gave the best possible camera shot.

I used adobe premiere to edit my preliminary task I found this very hard as I had no working knowledge on how to use it the only ability I has was being able to cut a clip and move it. This made the editing of a very poor quality in my preliminary. I progressed in my premiere skills by going through online tutorials on how to use different features I also gained help from my media teachers who were happy to give me help on how to get the most from edit. I used these skill in my opening edit and was able to add a greater effect to my opening using transitions and timing with my edits this made my film look a lot more professional and gave significant improvements. Overall I have had a lot of progression from my preliminary to my opening. This has help me create the final product that I wanted and show drastic improvement from when I started.
